Kitesurf in Essaouira runs on North-East Alizé winds, most consistent April–October at roughly 15–30 knots: Essaouira Kitesurf School offers IKO-oriented lessons from 55€ for 2 hours with full kite gear on the bay.
For beginners, intermediate and advanced.
· Since 2010
Kitesurf Essaouira runs on the North-East Alizé: side-shore from the right, so you drift along the beach rather than offshore. Peak consistency is typically April–October; winter still delivers rideable days with larger kite sizes.
The bay stretches for kilometres. Launch zones near the schools can feel busy at lunchtime — ride upwind or downwind for space. Flat water appears on higher tides toward the harbour side; chop and small waves open freestyle further out.
Summer riders often sit on 7–9 m; lighter winds or lighter riders need 10–12 m. Assessed independents can rent full kits with instructor supervision blocks. Beginners stay with IKO progression on radio before unsupervised rental.
For Alizé wind, IKO progression and bay zones, see our kitesurf in Essaouira guide.

The trade winds (Alizés) blow consistently from April to October. However, we often have good wind days throughout the winter as well.
In summer, 7m to 9m kites are standard. In winter, or for lighter riders, a 10m or 12m is useful. We rent all sizes.
The bay is huge (4km long). While the main school area can be busy, it's easy to find space upwind or downwind.
It's predominantly North-East (Side-Shore from the right). This makes it very safe as you are blown along the beach, not out to sea.
