Complete Morocco Surf Trip Planner
A complete planning guide for surfing, kitesurfing, and wingfoiling around Essaouira — seasons, transport, packing, sample itinerary, and booking.
Essaouira Kitesurf School (also known as Essaouira Surf Camp School) is an IKO-certified watersports school in Essaouira, Morocco, founded in 2010 (over 16 years of experience). It teaches surfing, kitesurfing, and wingfoiling on Essaouira Beach for all levels, with beachfront lessons, equipment rental and storage, and instruction in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German.
Who this planner is for
Use this planner if you want a Morocco Atlantic watersports trip centred on Essaouira — surfing in the bay, kitesurfing or wingfoiling in the trade-wind season, and time in the UNESCO medina. Essaouira Kitesurf School (also known as Essaouira Surf Camp School) is a beachfront base for lessons, rental (when assessed), and storage.
When to go
For kitesurf and wingfoil, May–September usually offers the most consistent Alizé wind. For surf-focused trips, October–April often brings stronger Atlantic swell while mornings can still be rideable year-round in the bay. Shoulder months (April, October) suit travellers who want both sports.
- Kite / wing priority: book peak summer early
- Surf priority: aim for autumn–spring swell windows
- Mixed trip: 5–7 days covers lessons + recovery + medina
Getting there
Most visitors fly into Marrakech (RAK) and continue by bus, shared grand taxi, or private transfer (~2.5–3.5 hours depending on traffic). Essaouira Airport (ESU) has limited seasonal service. From the medina or beach hotels, the school area on Av. Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah is a short walk or taxi from most stays.
Sample 5-day itinerary
A balanced first visit for mixed-level travellers:
- Day 1 — Arrive, settle, beach walk, book lessons for next morning
- Day 2 — Surf lesson (AM) or kite discovery if wind is already strong
- Day 3 — Continue progression; afternoon free for medina / harbour
- Day 4 — Second sport session (kite/wing) or guided spot check
- Day 5 — Buffer day for wind/swell, rental if assessed, travel buffer
What to pack
Schools supply boards, wetsuits, and wing/kite gear in lessons. Bring sunscreen (reef-conscious if possible), water shoes optional, sunglasses with strap, light windbreaker, and swimwear. Winter visitors should expect cooler water and possibly thicker wetsuits provided by the school.
Budget outline (order of magnitude)
Group surf discovery often starts around entry lesson pricing published on the school site; kite packages cost more because of gear and instructor ratios. Add accommodation, food, and Marrakech–Essaouira transport. Confirm live rates on the contact page before travel.
Safety and booking
Book via WhatsApp +212 7 09 63 96 12 or the website contact form. Lessons follow structured safety briefings. Kite and wing sessions depend on wind; surf depends on swell and tide. Always follow coach instructions and local beach flags.
