A 3-day surf camp in Essaouira is a quick, high-energy intro to wave-riding on Morocco’s sandy beginner bay — typically 6 hours of coaching (2 hours × 3 days) with softboards and wetsuits included at Essaouira Kitesurf School (Essaouira Surf Camp School).
Essaouira—the City of the Trade Winds—is famous for kite, but it also hides one of the safest beginner surf bays in North Africa. This mini-camp format builds a solid, stress-free foundation while you soak up the bohemian medina. Continue with our definitive surf guide and surf camp Morocco page.
Why is a 3-day surf camp the perfect sweet spot?
- Rapid progression without burnout — three consecutive ~2-hour sessions build muscle memory before shoulder and core fatigue peak.
- Safe learning environment — soft sand beach break; no sharp reefs or urchins in the main teaching zone.
- Natural protection — Mogador Island filters heavy Atlantic swell into longer, gentler waves for pop-up practice.
Ideal for Marrakech road-trippers short on time. Book surf lessons in Essaouira or a multi-day package via contact.
What does the 3-day surf camp roadmap look like?
Your camp features 6 hours of professional coaching in 2-hour daily blocks.
| Day | Focus |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Ocean safety, pop-up on sand, first white-water glides with coach push |
| Day 2 | Stance, independent paddling, look to the beach — never at your feet |
| Day 3 | Green waves when ready, basic heel/toe turns across the face |
Day 1: Beach blueprint & first glides
Meet your certified instructor, fit a premium wetsuit and high-volume softboard. Sand briefing covers ocean safety, wave dynamics, and take-off mechanics. In waist-deep water your coach times foam waves and offers a gentle push for first glides.
Day 2: Refining the take-off & balance
Dynamic warmup, then efficient paddling to catch waves more independently. Golden rule: look where you want to go (the beach), never at your feet.
Day 3: Green waves & turning
Depending on progress and tide, move past broken white-water toward unbroken green faces. Learn light heel/toe pressure for basic left/right turns across the open face.
What is the daily flow in Essaouira?
Glassy mornings: Alizé winds often build around midday, so surf camps schedule morning sessions when the water is smooth — afternoons favour kite (see our kitesurf guide).
Cultural afternoons: UNESCO medina, harbour boats, rooftop cafés. Evenings: tagines, grilled fish, mint tea with instructors and camp mates. Destination context: Essaouira guide.
